Solar Panels
The Benefits Of Solar Panels
Solar panels are used to collect energy from the sun and convert this light into electrical power. A solar panel is a collection of individual cells also known as photovoltaic cells and can be used to generate and supply electricity in both commercial and increasingly, residential properties.
An average house has more than enough roof area for a number of solar panels to produce enough solar electricity to supply most if not all of its power needs. An inverter is required; this is a device that converts the direct current (or DC current), alternating current or usable electricity. One solar panel can produce a limited amount of electricity and so a number of panels may be required depending on what the electrical load demand is.
One of the main benefits of this power is that light from the sun is a renewable energy resource that provides a clean source of energy. With the global climate changing it is all the more important to look at a clean and renewable source of power for not only commercial but also domestic use. Power from photovoltaic panels is non-polluting, there are no harmful or detrimental emissions and the collection of solar power does not harm the ecosystem.
In isolated areas a solar electric system is less expensive to install than a conventional electricity supply and can provide power for thirty years and more.
After a system has paid for its initial installation, the electricity it provides for the rest of the panel’s life is free, eliminating monthly electric bills. The system can in fact earn the owner additional income from the electric company. If less power is used than the solar system produces, the excess power can be sold to the electricity company.
Solar power though a relatively new source of power, it has already established itself as one the most important energy sources of the future. Though it is used in commercial properties such as the headquarters of Google, it has become increasingly affordable and the advantages of solar panels are now available to the average domestic user.
